1. Setup
2. Cue
3. Mark
4. Reward
Set the room up so sit can win before you cue.
Why it matters
Sit is not just a trick. It gives an excited doodle an easy behavior to offer when their body wants to bounce.
Training steps
1
Hold a treat at nose level.
2
Move it slowly up and back over the head.
3
When their rear touches the floor, mark yes and treat.
4
After five clean reps, say sit before the lure.
5
Fade the lure by using an empty hand signal, then reward from the other hand.
Doodle pro tip
A leggy doodle often pogos up instead of folding down. Lure slow and low so that springy body has nowhere to go but into a sit, and never push the rear.
Success signs
Responds to verbal cue
Responds to hand signal
Can sit before meals or doors
Common mistake
Pushing the rear down. That teaches pressure, not understanding.
